Luca Citi is an electronic engineer who majored in Biomedical Engineering and a lecturer in machine learning in CSEE at Essex. He received a PhD in Biorobotics Science and Engineering jointly offered by IMT Lucca (Lucca, Italy) and Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna (Pisa, Italy). From January 2010 to November 2012, he was a post-doctoral research fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital / Harvard Medical School and affiliated with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, MA, USA). He is currently a Lecturer of Computational Intelligence at the University of Essex, UK, where he is a member of the Essex Brain-Computer Interfaces group. His main research interests are signal processing and machine learning applied to neural and physiological signals. In 2012, his algorithm for the prediction of mortality of ICU patients ranked first and second in the prestigious Computing in Cardiology Challenge, outperforming academic and industrial competitors such as the University of Oxford, Philips Research North America and GE Healthcare Systems.
