Fausto Pinto graduated from Lisbon University Medical School in 1984 and is currently Full Professor of Cardiology at Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon, Portugal (FML) and head of the Cardiology Department of Santa Maria University Hospital. He did his Cardiology fellowship at Santa Maria Hospital and at Stanford University Medical School (CA, USA), where he was a Post-Doctoral Fellow and Clinical Attending in the Echocardiography laboratory. He also did an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at the same institution. Professor Pinto is also President of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) (2014-2016), director of Lisbon Cardiovascular Institute, president of the Association for Research and Development of the Faculty of Medicine in Lisbon (AIDFM), head of Cardiovascular Center of Lisbon University and former President and founder of the European Association of Echocardiography (2002-04), a registered branch of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), chairman of the CPC (Congress Program Committee) of ESC (2008-10), Vice-President of ESC for National Societies and Affiliates (2010-12). He is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC), American College of Cardiology (FACC), American Society of Angiology (FASA), Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI), American Society of Echocardiography (FASE) and a Senior Fellow of New Westminster College. He is a Full Member of the Portuguese Academy of Medicine. He is the Editor in Chief of the Portuguese Journal of Cardiology (since 1999) and member of the Editorial Board and Scientific Committee of several national and international journals. He did postgraduate supervision (MSc, PhD, Postdocs) at Faculty of Medicine Lisbon, Imperial College London and National School of Public Health (among others). His main areas of interest are cardiovascular imaging, particular on the use of ultrasound in cardiology. He published over 190 papers and has presented over 1100 lectures/chairmanships at national and mostly international meetings. Professor Pinto is PI and National coordinator of the RESHAPE-HF2, STEMI, COLCOT, RELAX, ISCHEMIA-NIH, GLORIA_AF, MODIFY, ARTS-HF and ATPCI trials and Beta3 AR-H2020, among others.
